Kalthoum Qewar's Ministry

Kalthoum Qewar’s Call to Ministry

Over the next years, while David’s church planting ministry grew through home studies and outreach programs; Kalthoum’s ministry with the women, children and community grew too. In 1990, obeying her Call to minister to women and children, Kalthoum founded the National Women’s Conference in Jordan which has been well attended each year. Women gather from churches throughout Jordan and surrounding countries. The conference topics are normally controversial in the Midle East and not approached, i.e. God’s role in a healthy marriage, widows remarrying, mother and father’s parenting role

In 1997, Kalthoum developed a church leaders’ training curriculum. Various church denominations located in Jordan ask her to facilitate workshops for their women, youth and Sunday school teachers. Kalthoum developed the curriculum and workshop presentations to complement the Arab culture. Unfortunately, many programs developed outside the Arab world are generic in perspective to accommodate cultures worldwide and are not easily implemented in Jordan’s culture.

In 1997, Kalthoum started a “ministry” in the private school system along with three public schools. Each week she tells stories to the Muslim and Christian children based on Biblical principals. In addition, she participates in organizing school parties and special events for the parents and shares in the counseling activities. In 1999, her ministry escalated to a new level. God opened a door for Kalthoum to expand her ministry activities to “minister” to prisoners. In addition to regular prisoners, in 2002 she started counseling women and girls that are imprisoned for their safety because they suffered sexual assaults.

End of 2003, David was called Home to be with the Lord and God’s Call remained in Kalthoum’s heart to continue the work in Jordan.

In 2004, she returned to Jordan to continue working with the women and the Zarka church and to facilitate the purchase of the church’s second floor, which was formally the Qewar’s home, and its roof which was formally used as the social gathering area. Funds were raised by The Shadow of His Wings Foundation and Amjad Kawar to purchase the building and to renovate the second floor to include a library, guest room, three Sunday school rooms, a kitchen and a gathering area. The roof was cleaned and repaired in preparation for social activities. Kalthoum organized church teams to do the work.

During the summer of 2005, the first time since 2003, the church family gathered on the roof for a celebration. Laughing, singing and playing echoed throughout Zarka’s town center as young people enjoyed the renovated play area. As in times past, people’s curiosity drew them to the roof and new friendships were birthed opening the door for Christ’s love to permeate.

In 2005, Kalthoum wrote a variety of teachings, programs and dramas for women, teens, youth and children portraying Biblical values for Midle East satellite TV, Internet sites and radio broadcasting. These materials were used over the years by Kalthoum and other church leaders whom she trained throughout Jordan, Syria, Egypt and Iraq. In addition, she writes articles regarding teen issues for the “Al Ra’e”, the most read governmental newspaper in Jordan.

January 2006, Kalthoum returned to Jordan to continue the ministry to the people the Lord called her to serve, but due to financial strain, has returned to the US to minister.

2007 has brought with it a ministry opportunity for Kalthoum that will allow her to reach the Arab people in her homeland region through television ministry. Read more about this great opportunity.

Church Work

In 1984 returned from Denmark to Jordan led by the Holy Spirit to start working among my people who are from broken homes and Islamic background or Christian by names originally. That vision I carried all these years came real when the Lord opened doors for me in Jordan and blessed us abundantly (my husband and I)

Women Ministry:

The vision was to educate the women and council them by sharing with them my experience of marriage make them to open up, gave me the energy to held an annual conference for women all over Jordan from all different churches to discuss matters we cannot deal with in normal weekly meetings. The Lord gave me the vision and the work to help girl’s youth for discovering who they are in Christ through the lack of Education to this matter in the Middle East by holding conferences, special meeting, and counseling sessions. That gave me good relationships with all churches around Jordan and Middle East-Arabic World.

Charity Work

The places where I served the Lord especially by Charity work which I take from the rich and give to the poor, even helping from our daily bread and own clothes. Helping children find their needs from food, shelter, and clothes opening my house to them 24 hours feeding them with my own children *(by the way, I have six children of my own - 2 girls, 4 boys different ages, the oldest 23, the youngest 8 years old) Helping the needy with their studies, counseling their difficult matters. So I created something called (Eid Meal) that is to serve each family of them with a box full of the basics to cook for their children in different occasions like Christmas and Easter.

Counseling Ministry

The Lord has used me in different places that I can tell hundreds of stories by God’s grace and help I closed the biggest prostitute house in Zarqa and the lady that runs the place with the whole family members got saved and she’s now an active member in our church helping in evangelism after training her and her daughter a very good Sunday school teacher, and one of my active teenagers members.

Children Services

The schools were open for me to teach the children Bible stories and values of the Christian life (I am a member of PTA) working with student in different occasions by dramas and occasional activities (e.g. Christmas, Easter, Mother’s day, graduation, etc) and counseling them to improve their studies and life’s quality. Holding sessions for the parents about raising children and marriage relationships and managing the house issues.

Jail Ministry

The door was open for me in jail to wetness and council with girls and women affected from sexual abuse - harassments or different criminal backgrounds. As Christian Jordanian to tell them stories about God’s love while visiting them in Jail offering those gifts at Christmas time in front of the guards and Jail Directors.

Planting Churches

During the past 10 years, the Lord has used us (me with my husband) in planting 4 churches in different places in Jordan, who he was ministering. He was working with the theological studies and I took the training line, so I was the planner & coordinator (pioneer) for all church services and visitations and finding the right person in the right place. I started educating myself by every chance I have.

Courses in the theological school and through seminars or reading all my husband books that was graduated Master degree in Theology last October. By that time he was diagnosed by colon cancer and passed away Dec, 30th 2003 which forced us to leave the work in the church and move to USA for medical help and now I am left with the six children in a difficult situation. However I still have this call living in me to go back and continue what I have started, by the grace of God and your help.

Now one of the churches we planted the pastor and his wife were in my teenager class (Salt Church). One of Zarka Church youth also, he was one of my teenager class who was finishing his Bachelor Degree in Theological studies to enable him to take over pasturing the church with the elders. Many of them with their wives were in my youth or teenagers class, that’s why I am their mama (spiritual mother).

Planning and Acting

Therefore I was the pioneer for all these services and the mama to lead this big family and train leaders with me to help in this big huge work we have now. Women services, Annual conferences and Camps, Teenager activities, Youth Meeting and Counseling, Sell groups - home prayer groups, Home Bible study classes, Charity work, School services and programs, Jail ministry, Planning different activities for the church, Holding Training Center for all activities: a. Sunday-school services b. Teenager services c. Youth ministry d. Women services

Training Center

The work I mentioned previously has pushed me more to put my own curriculum for training leaders, I printed that out and used it in my church and I saw the fruit of it running until now and they have used it with each other. In addition, in almost every Church around Jordan. I used it to train the Iraqis that I’ve got the chance to meet during their stay in Jordan and now they are using it in different places where they emigrate (they write me back) for example from Australia, Sweden, etc.

I used also the material in some trips to Syria, Iraq and Egypt and I was invited to do training in Lebanon before we knew about my husband sickness that stopped me.

Training Curriculum:

A. Training the Leaders:
The curriculum has 3 steps to go through:

  • 1. How to find myself to know who I am/why I am exist?
  • 2. Know who is my God and choose him, go deep in my relationship with him.
  • 3. Study God’s plan for me especially takes decisions to serve my Lord with all my heart and abilities.

The three steps attract and fish, disciple and train, send and work.
Build the Kingdom, mature in myself and my relationship with Jesus my Lord.

The fruit of this training I saw during the past years, it is a program that is flexible to the need of the locals. I used a lot of stuff from translating some materials to make it meet the needs there and the knowledge and experience I had through these years, and it meets the daily issues in the service, very simple and effective.

B. Dealing with Teenagers:
This curriculum is special for the parents and teenager leaders, helping them how to deal with their children and lead them to know Jesus Christ as their savior. Finding themselves and some answers for their life, also planning for different activities with them, and leading the teens to minister to their peers expanding God’s Kingdom.

C. Drama School:
This is a special training for voice pitch, body language, and facial expression/The art of telling story/Drama writing and acting/setting different programs and activities for especial occasions.
Creating New Small Jobs:
I created small jobs for helping the people facing their needs like driving our van to:

  • 1. Collect the children for Sunday school and driving families attending different meetings and activities
  • 2. Helping in kitchen work for each other, doing pastries and snack to earn the living
  • 3. Mending or repairing the clothes
  • 4. Cleaning the church building or other places
  • 5. Making sandwiches or food when necessary for different occasions
  • 6. Take care of children/ or adults or sick people.
  • 7. Driving sick people to the hospital or doctor appointments
  • 8. Helping the old people among us shopping or doing visitation
  • 9. Holding my own and my husband’s books like a small library to educate them
  • 10. Duplicating Christian cassettes or video tapes using our own equipments. I left all that stuff for them before moving to USA
  • 11. The master bedroom in my house to use for guests who visit Jordan and the church, give them the chance to visit biblical places and help on the services
  • 12. I used to translate for the guests in different services and guide them in traveling around Jordan with my youth
